The property dates from 1836 and retains many original features, such as arrow slits and exposed oak beams. The centre is ideal for groups of all sizes. The well equipped kitchen has microwave, fridges, freezer and six burner cooker. The dining room has facilities for up to 40 people, with wood block flooring and an open log fire. A lounge study, two bathroom/ shower areas, and a large and effective kit drying room complete the ground floor.

The accommodation is mostly situated on the first floor in 9 separate rooms of between 2 and 6 beds. All rooms are centrally heated.

There is also a separate self-contained apartment that sleeps up to 4 people. If you don’t want to cook for yourself, catering can be arranged, or good food is available at the nearby 'Gwyn Arms'.

Absolute Adventure is also a licensed activity provider and can provide qualified instruction and activity courses, as well as kit hire.

We can provide bedding on request and we have a large stock of outdoor equipment available for hire.

How to find us

From Brecon

Follow signs to Swansea and brown tourist signs to ‘Dan-yr-Ogof Show Caves’ on the A40 and then A4067.

Once you have passed Dan-yr-Ogof, you will enter the village of Craig-y-nos and will see a castle on your left.   After leaving the village, you need to take the next left turning, signposted Penwyllt (if you get to the village of Pen-y-cae you have missed it).

Follow this road over a bridge and the round to the left where the road forks.  Rhongyr Isaf is then on your right, up a track just before the first bungalow.

From Cardiff

Take the A470 to Merthyr Tydfil (junction 32 on the M4).  After a series of roundabouts, take the A465 signposted Hirwaun and Aberdare.

Follow the A465 until you pick up brown tourist signs for ‘Dan-yr-Ogof Show Caves’, Glynneath and Colbren and the A4109.

Take the turning for the A4109 and follow it until it joins the A4067 at Abercraf.  Turn right (still following signs for Dan-yr-Ogof) and go through the village of Ynyswen and Pen-y-cae.

After leaving Pen-y-cae take the first turning on your right, signposted Penwyllt (if you get to the village of Craig-y-nos you have missed it)
